I had an issue ONE time, and found the customer service quick and helpful. AND...my ISSUE WAS RESOLVED! Fast Forward to now and I've had this self emptying Shark Robot for a week now, and I LOVE IT! At first launch and adding to the APP, the mapping failed, as did the Robot WiFi connection. I blame this on TWO things that were NOT SHARK PROBLEMS.
FIRST is that the battery arrived needing to be charged. This is only a problem because the "Mapping" of your house requires about 30 mins, and the APP wanted me to Map immediately after adding the Shark Vacuum. Hard to do with a near empty battery. (Also Note* I added everything at night and allowed the battery to charge. However, when I woke Up the next morning- it was like I never added the Vacuum Robot to the App.)
My SECOND item is that I SHOULD HAVE done a power recycle (Reboot) of my phone before starting adding this vacuum to my Shark App.
So, after a reboot of my phone, and with a Fully Charged Battery - I started the Whole procedure again FROM SCRATCH. This time it worked GREAT! Added the Robot to my profile, Mapped the house, set up my rooms, and then actually Vacuumed. Everything has worked to my satisfaction.
MY ADVICE: CHARGE BATTERY FULLY BEFORE EVEN STARTING THE APP INSTALL AND MAPPING PROCESS.
That being said, I have had the house vacuumed 3 times now, and I'm embarrassed to say how much dirt was picked up. It returns to base during the run to empty the collection bun (all automatic,) and then gets back to it.
I did think it was done when it returned to the base station, and was a bit startled when it started vacuuming again on its own 2 hours later. At first I was convinced my robot was possessed by "Chucky"; but. then realized it was charging battery back up before completing the cleaning of the rooms I had told it to clean. So if this happens to you - Don't Call A Priest...just know batteries don't necessarily last long enough to clean the WHOLE house without a re-charge in between.
I would 10/10 buy this again! Hope it continues to keep me this Happy! Stay Safe and Healthy Friends!
But the inbetween time it’s nice to set it and forget it. You don’t even have to be home to use it.
Love Shark Matrix, it does better job of cleaning, is faster than AI Ultra and less noisy. Both does excellent job of mapping the house and emptying in the bin and has matrix cleaning feature. AI Ultra which I got had only one slim brush whereas Matrix has 3-sided longer brush but has no edge cleaning feature like AI Ultra has. Overall Matrix is more powerful than AI Ultra no matter which model you buy. I highly recommend Matrix over AI Ultra.
Pros:
*the vacuum runs as needed on a schedule and keeps up with daily maintenance.
* the app will let me know if the robot gets stuck
* the app allows me to schedule when I want to clean daily, and will automatically clean without me having to start it.
* the app will also allow me to clean rooms or parts of rooms as needed.
* I can put in 'no go' zones, so the vacuum will not clean certain areas (such as under the kitchen table where the vacuum tends to get hung up on all the chair legs.
Cons:
* is not super effective against our dog hair that gets embedded in our carpet--especially when she's shedding.
* I can't schedule cleaning of main rooms daily, with weekly sweeps of rooms less used (but closing the doors to those rooms works well).
* it doesn't do a super great job of cleaning the space directly next to a wall. I have to go through and sweep along the walls every few days.
Overall review: I like the vacuum for daily upkeep and cleaning. I have recommended this product to others, and am thinking of purchasing another for downstairs.
It took a few days, and a few uncloggings, but my floor is now clean!
It's also very quiet, I no longer have to suffer headaches when the carpets need cleaned. I actually expected a bit more sound from something that works so well on my neglected carpets.
Otherwise I just press the button and off she goes. Very thorough. Shocked at the amount of stuff it seems to find. And the big bonus is self emptying. It’s like my cat going to her litter box except it’s my little helper. Then I only have to empty all the contents like once every couple weeks. Dependents on how much she collects.
I look forward to pressing that button and being able to have my coffee and just ride my exercise bike, or do some work or other multi tasking things I may want to do knowing the vacuuming is done.
In fact I’m about to have the living room vacummed now!!!
1. If you set it to empty and recharge it will not finish cleaning until it is completely recharged even if there is very little left to clean.
2. The cleaning map will show you what was cleaned but only after it is complete. You cannot see what has or hasn't been done while the vacuum is working.
3. You can't set the sequence. It would be nice to be able to get certain rooms done before others.
4. The map should show the location of the vacuum. If the vacuum has an issue, if the location was shown on the map it would be easy to find. Walking around listening for it works but the map would be better.
This is a really good vacuum and we like it a lot. The things I would change are VERY minor and do not affect the cleaning capability of the vacuum which is great.
Customer service was friendly and was able to send a new, working verification link for my account. I have been using the new Shark for several days now. Setup was easy once the app recognized my login. I charged the Shark for a couple of hours, programmed it to learn the rooms/layout and then labelled each room as well as do not go areas. Overall, very easy to setup and use, especially with the auto empty feature. I have used iRobot vacuums in the past, and the Shark is very comparable in vacuum features. The self-empty base and bagless are nice upgrades to what I have used in the past. The Shark can get loud as others have commented. Overall, it is a good vacuum. I use it primarily for hard surface areas like the kitchen and breakfast / dining areas.
10/29/2023 Original Review for 1 Star:
I am not able to actually review the Shark I purchased. I have been trying to setup a new Shark Clean account to connect the app to the Shark. The app and website keep indicating my account is not verified and to click the verification link in my e-mail to verify my account. Each time I click the verification link, the website asks me to login but doesn't seem to verify my account. I have tried to verify my account through the app / phone and different computer browsers about 7 different times including requesting a new verification link e-mail. Each time I get the same error.
Disappointing as the first impression. I will call customer support when they open.
However, THIS Shark self-cleaning vacuum has been absolutely amazing!!! It's able to suck up all the dog hair, the only time it gets clogged is if I accidentally leave out too much dog toy fluff 😅 I've had the vacuum for several months now and it continues to run smoothly! It almost always finds its way back to the charge unless I've let out too many obstacles. It's a great vacuum and if you have dogs like me just schedule it to vacuum every morning and you'll have a clean house with little effort!
Highly recommend
Update: I did get the app to work by turning off the switch on the base , then turning it back on and starting the process all over again.
This thing reliably navigates our house and most obstacles every day. We have carpet and tile, and it seems to do fine vacuuming both even though we have it set to normal vacuum power.
Speaking of power, it seems much quieter and more effective than it's (more expensive) competitors of its generation. Again, we use normal vacuum power, not max, because it is quieter and more effective than our experiences with Roborock S5, iRobot Roomba with the double rollers and camera, and others.
We really like the thing. It picks up plenty of dust, dirt, fur and hair every day. The self-empty feature is so helpful for any floor larger than a couple decent sized rooms.
I'm quite impressed with it's navigation. When I pick it up to move it out of my office before a meeting, I press the clean button and close the door, and it seems to determine it's location in the house within a few seconds.
We tried many more expensive robots and found them lacking for what we want--reliable, no cameras, easy to maintain. This little thing does the job and does it well. Impressive machine.
I have two dogs, one with a heavy undercoat. Now the only part of the house with any dog hair is the stairs, which the vacuum always identifies as a ledge. Unlike the early, suicidal roombas, these are able to detect the ledge and don’t try to jump.
We replaced an old Neato D4 with this Shark (we named it "Dusty"). Our old Neato was having less and less battery life, taking 4+ hours to "recharge to continue", and forgetting that parts of our house existed. I was initially nervous about getting this as a replacement, due to some of the other reviews which said they had trouble getting it connected to their Wifi, and had trouble making a home map.
However, my experience has been wonderful. It connected to my Wifi on the first try, and made a correct map of our house on the first try. I then tested the "5x5 matrix" mode, and it went to the right room and cleaned just as described.
Next, I tested "clean the whole house". It cleaned every room (not like the old one), came back to empty the hopper and went right back out to finish the job. It completed it's task with battery power left. I am very happy with the results.
I was also able to set-up specific rooms, but I haven't actually tried to send it out on a "clean this room only" job. But based on my experience so far, I expect that to work as well.
She was taken back after I installed the Shark Clean app on her phone and showed her that she can create a scheduled time and day to clean a room, all rooms, spot clean an area within a room or Ultra Clean a room along with alerts, notifications and a clean report all through the phone app while she's doing other things.
IMHO I think the smile on her face says it all! Well worth the money spent!
My other vacuums would get stuck under my cabinets and this one doesn’t! I still haven’t used the app much, I just walk over and push the Clean button it’s faster lol. Now if I could just get one that would dust, laundry & clean dishes too LOL! Hey a girl can dream!
The vacuum isn’t as loud as everyone makes it seem- it’s quieter than a normal upright vacuum.
It does an amazing job on hardwood floors, low pile carpets/ rugs, and high pile carpet/ rugs at getting all of the dog hair, human hair, dust, dirt, and debris. We have 2 dogs- one doesn’t shed and is hypoallergenic (malshi) and one large dog who sheds like crazy (Kelpie mix), and a kid who he and his friends are constantly bringing in dirt.
The new edge cleaning feature really does an amazing job at getting all of the corners and along the walls.
I only had to map my house out once and it got an accurate mapping right away (be prepared to run around and move all furniture that you typically would move to vacuum, you have to be quick because the mapping is quite a fast process).
The only down side is it takes 6 hours to charge for an hour and a half (ish) of run time and for 150sq ft it takes about 20 min to do its job.
***Also let me save you lots of research time- this new version only has one side brush because of the blower- the old versions had two and Amazon and a lot of other places haven’t updated that yet- but it says on the box if you look closely so don’t worry when you only see one brush like I did lol.
Overall, I’m so happy with this purchase! It’s an amazing robot vacuum!
The one complaint I have the App based wifi connection process is terrible. More specifically the connection process to wifi used internally to the Shark. Once connected the app is ok. Not to go to techno nerd here but in simple terms. The connection sequence the Shark uses is far too slow, clumsy, and timeouts too quickly. I tried for almost 90 minutes to connect this device to my wifi per the instructions despite trying numerous times and variations of interpretations of the instructions the connection would start and right at the end it would fail. I am technically advanced I checked my wifi logs the Shark would timeout right before a network address was assigned.
I called Shark support they would have been helpful to a non-technical person as 1st level had me try what I had already done and then said 2nd level would call within 24 hours. No call from 2nd level. I decided to try one more thing to make the connection before returning the product. I pre-assigned a network address to the Shark which cut down on the negotiating time and allowed for a successful connection.
I am not going to say everyone will experience this problem but I can tell you my network gear is all less than a year old and it took high level technical knowledge to get a successful connection.
Only downside is that shark does not have an “invisible wall” feature like iRobot roomba does, you can use magnetic strips but they’re kind of an eye sore.
Our daughter and son-in-law got one at Christmas and loved it for their all wood floor house! So we decided to order one also and this was the best price of anywhere we found! It is super easy to use, and really pulls that dirt out of the carpets and off the wood floors! It’s truly amazing to watch them work, but then again, I am a senior!
***Update! The vacuum is going strong! The brushes that came on the unit ended up ripping off the base where they connect to the plastic bit that connects to the vac but I bought Amazon generic replacements and haven't had an issue since. Love this vacuum, total recommendation! The tank did end up holding its weight for capacity, I still won't say 1 month but it's long enough to not worry about it to often which is all that matters. Maybe 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. Love it, we named him Jerry. Ha
Pros:
Not noisy compared to Roomba except to dump which takes seconds.
Great suction and manages several rug heights.
Technology for mapping, covering the floor in total even with restarts, and emptying itself is fabulous.
No bags required.
See below on the cons - was able to set that area as a no-go zone and still do the master.
For mapping, was able to easily merge areas that were not square or rectangle, or odd shapes to label as the family room.
Cons:
I have a high shag rug in the master that the twirly thing got hung around. It maybe just because it was first run and kept turning but I don’t plan to use it on that rug.
Cannot schedule by room at this time. For now, I just start the family room when I go to bed. It takes a recharge to finish it but that is ok since it is at night.
Battery will only go to 40% and it takes it back to recharge. I have not found where you can reduce.
It was easy to set up. Took maybe 5 mins. The app is easy to use and very simple. I don't have to babysit this one, unlike my old one that got stuck all the time or lost in a room. It's scheduled to start in the morning when I get up for work. All I have to do is pick up any cat or dog toys that got drug out and empty the dustbin. I like that it talks to you when there is a problem. It'll tell you what's wrong so you don't have to figure it out. The only time it did that was when it picked up a dog treat that the dogs missed and it jammed up the roller. Took the treat out and pushed clean and away it went. It also sends messages through the app. But most of all I like the row-by-row vacuuming. It maps out your house and you can see where it vacuumed. Does a pretty good job at covering the entire house in about 45 mins. It will go empty its dust bin then go back to where it left off and continue vacuuming. Sometimes it makes no sense what it's doing or where it's going but it's a machine, not a person so it's only as smart as the person who programmed it. 😉 As long as I run it every day it does a good job of keeping up with the pet hair on the living room rug. Otherwise, it doesn't have enough power to pull up all the pet hair. But I tell people they're not designed to replace your vacuum, they just help keep it clean in between cleanings. Now with all this pet hair, it picks up every day, there is no way you only have to empty the dustbin once a month. I have to empty it at least once a week. Oh, and it's super loud when it's emptying itself and it definitely isn't quiet while vacuuming. While it is quieter than a regular vacuum but it's no quieter than the robot vacuum it replaced. I have carpet in the bedrooms and I'm sure it helps but they still need the real deal every few days. Overall I do like it better than the old one but honestly, I can't say that it cleans any better though it might be more thorough. The only reason it's better is that it is less of a hassle for me to operate and while it is running. If you're looking for an easy to use robot this is a good choice.
First, the good. The robot seems to have plenty of suction for me with 3 settings (eco, normal, max) plus the Ultra Clean setting and spot cleaning. I have all hard surface floors with two rugs. I always use the max setting and my house is small enough that the robot can do my whole house in one charge. It does a good job navigating my house when going from room to room and very cleanly makes it's way back to the base when it's done or needing to empty the vacuum mid job. I was pleasantly surprised that it was able to get over the edging for my kitchen as it's likely a tad over the max height limit of 0.75 inches that robot is advertised to handle. Sometimes takes a couple tries but it's yet to get stuck or fail to get over it. It does bump into some furniture and molding but so far has yet to scuff anything but itself and only on it's backside where there aren't any sensors. The manual states you need a fairly large open area for the dock but mine has done just fine having only about a foot of open space on each side. Another great plus is how easily this whole unit is to clean. The self cleaning brush roll does stay tangle free for the most part but if you have longer hair, you will need to pull it out every now and then. Thankfully Shark made this super easy to do. I love the bagless base unit and the vacuum and base pop open without any tools for cleaning. However if you have a pet, I'd say the base handles 30-45 days before needing to be emptied. Regardless, it's so easy to do that I wouldn't mind emptying it after every full use cause it's that easy and simple.
Now the bad. The app could use some improving. First, I found out the hard way and after days of frustration, that this robot has a character limit for wifi network names. I had a longer wifi network name which was preventing the robot from joining the network. I have several other smart home products and none of them had this flaw. Once I renamed my wifi network to something shorter, I was able to connect without further issue. Next, while I don't expect this thing to make perfect maps of my house on a single "exploration", there's no ability to improve the map. You either accept what it finds or have it start all over. The app should allow you to have the robot further explore a certain area you want it to make a more accurate map of. Next, the app won't tell you the progress of the cleaning job. The app doesn't tell you which rooms it's done cleaning, what progress for the whole job has been made, or progress within a specific room. Thankfully, these could all be remedied with updates so get to it Shark!
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this robot for anyone looking for a robot vacuum.
Most of vendor sites and YouTube reviews have not caught up to this new feature addition. Indeed, Shark has not done a great job getting the word out about and the new feature doesn’t even really jump out at you on the box art if you don’t know what you are looking for.
When I first opened the box to unpack the vac I was initially disappointed to see only one side brush and that the motor attachment for the right side brush was now gone. My initial reaction was that Shark pulled a fast one and cut corners after the vac received so many good reviews. But that does not appear to be the case. Instead they replaced the right side brush with a blower to blast dirt away from walls and corners where side brushes can’t otherwise reach. Indeed, side brushes a notorious for pushing debris into edges and corners (hockey stick effect). They call the blower CleanEdge and you can find info about it on the box if you look closely enough. But again, many vendor sites and video reviews still show the old model with two side brushes and no blower.
The CleanEdge does seems to work pretty good on hard floors, which I have a lot more of than carpet. So this is a bonus for me. I’m not sure if it’s as ideal as having two side brushes for people with a lot of carpet. Time will tell. I am sure some will ask why they didn’t keep both side brushes and add the CleanEdge blower, but I suspect the answer is a combination of cost control (not increasing price) and battery life.
Dropping one side brush also probably doesn’t affect performance much, and may even improve it a bit depending on your needs. Programming just alters how the vac approaches edges to ensure a the side brush is always facing the right direction. And as I mention above, side brushes can hockey sticke debris into edges and corners a robot vac can’t reach. Adding an edge blower is a better way to counter that hockey stick problem than just adding more hockey sticks.
Anyhow, I wanted to post that I am happy with the upgraded model for my needs. However, depending on what you prefer (second side brush, or edge blower), you might need to do some added digging on vendor sites to see which model they are now shipping.
It can still be interrupted by random small items like a cat toy or a child's action figure.
The anti-hair roll works good but not perfect.
The feature of returning to its base to empty or charge the battery then resuming the job works great.
edit: even with the drawbacks, it's still a lot less maintenance and doesn't miss places, and the self-emptying is an essential feature, so I changed my rating to 5 stars.
This thing clears up after a Dog and Cat nicely … I have to empty the container weekly but that’s ok. Just have to make sure we don’t leave anything on the floor that it can Getting its way like power cables or dryer sheets. My Daughter named her Berta lol
Update 9/19/2023 Make sure you clean and replace the filters when needed.
I hate Vacuuming this is miracle device
Another update 3/22/24 look at the photos of the clean out chamber still cleaning up like a charm one photo is 14 days of cleaning the other is one day.
Hard flooring pet hair pick up is great
Carpet Pet hair pick up is okay
60 day bin is a lie, more like 2-3 days when you have four furry monsters running around the house
Does not replace your upright vaccum designed to go after pet hair, but will help reduce how often you need to pull it out.
Its a robot vaccum it drives around and assualts the floor for dirt and hair. I have 2 Huskies and 2 Cats, so pet is always all over. This little guy helps keep the hair down. *Note* this robot does not replace the use of a good upright vacccum designed to go after pet hair, it will reduce how often you have the pull the beast out of the closet, but it will not replace it. I have also owned and used Roomba models before this purchase and it is the same.
The Shark robot does a fantastic job on hard flooring to pick up pet hair, it does an okay job of getting the pet hair out of carpet. In addition it will get loose its mind if you have funiture with low profile legs that it could drive over. It can and will get stuck on them. The 60 Day container is a lie, I have to empty the charging stand every other day to every third day depending on traffic and the current condition of the Huskies coats.
Before utilizing this robot vaccum really good, I mean really really good. Then schedule it to run daily, including the weekends! It will help maintain that starting state. I'm no longer having to run my upright every day, now its down to once a week to keep up with the influx of hair as the husky explosivly shed their coats. The amount of Husky glitter has greatly reduced with this method. If you expect it to replace your vaccum and become the only work horse in the home to complete this task, make sure you have no pets, and minimal human occupains.
Super easy to set up. I was concerned as Bruce seemed to wander a lot on his initial travels to check my house. First time I ran Bruce he did great. Really pulls up the deep down dirt! Cleaning lady was here Wednesday and Friday it had to empty once to finish. So it is getting deep cleaning done. Easy to empty tank and easy to clean filters. The initial meeting of my cat and Bruce under the bed was quite humorous. She growled and I heard whisking noises and here comes Bruce with the cat right behind him 😳. Very pleased with my purchase.
Loud when discharging into the bin, but to be expected to pull all the debris from the vacuum into the reservoir.
Appears to pick up much better than the unit it is replacing and the row by row cleaning leaves much more satisfying lines in the carpeted areas, also a huge improvement over our previous robot.
Overall, very satisfied a couple days in!
I received the vacuum quickly and it was well packed. Setup, including unboxing, scanning instructions, connecting the robot and starting it charging took less than 10 minutes. The app guided me clearly through every move, even though I am not very techy.
After charging for a few hours, the app indicated that the vacuum was ready to explore, so I tapped the indicated place and the robot set off around the house. Within a short time, it was finished, and the map was very accurate. I labeled the rooms (drag and drop, took 2-3 minutes) and scheduled cleanings. I sent the bot to start cleaning, and it quietly and systematically cleaned the first couple of rooms, returned to base and emptied, recharged, and resumed cleaning.
The robot rarely bumps into anything, and cleans very quietly. The base that empties the robot is a bit noisy (sounds like a regular vacuum cleaner), but it is quick and tolerable. So far no issues with my long hair wrapping around the brush roll, and the cat appears to approve.
This device will help my house look spotless with basically no effort in my part! I don’t know how people live without one.
